“You wanna go on a picnic?” he said, stepping over Tabs, who was sprawled in front of the doorway like a 20-pound kitty gatekeeper. “You, me, sandwiches from whole Foods and a good patch of grass? Hadi gidelim. Can you be ready in five minutes?”

He handed me a glass of water he was holding and an allergy pill. “Here, take this, Bubble Girl.”

This time of year, I’m allergic to everything, so I chugged it down. He grabbed the glass and looked to leave.

“Five minutes isn’t enough,” I said after him.

He bounded down the stairs and hollered back, “Now it’s only four minutes!”

Sh*t. dört dakika?? I kicked into fast-and-furious makeup overdrive, rubbing a few dots of tinted moisturizer on my cheeks and chin, patting concealer under my eyes, brushing a bit of eye shadow into my brows and curling my lashes.

A minute left on the clock, but I felt like something was still missing…

I looked around the room and discovered Tabs rolling on his back, blinking with sleepy eyes. My pan of Jouer Honeysuckle was half buried below his tum.

Seriously, dude. I will never understand how or why this cat enjoys stealing and sleeping on makeup. It’s just the weirdest thing. I guess it’s good that Jouer housed the 0.07-ounce pan of Honeysuckle in a durable brown compact, because not only can it endure jostling around in my makeup bag, it can also endure the power of a portly XXXL tabby.

After liberating the compact from Tabs’ voluptuous girth, I pried it open with my fingers, and swept and blended Honeysuckle’s sheer, lightweight cream formula on my cheeks and lips.

Purrfect. The semi-matte peach was exactly the kind of casual color I needed for an improv picnic and the rest of the day after, because it lasts 5-6 hours on my dry cheeks, and about an hour on my lips.

Silky smooth, ma!

Ding Ding Ding! My five minutes were up. One much more quick glance in the mirror and a smile. The extra color on my cheeks and lips was exactly what I needed/wanted — a naturally flushed, low-key look for an afternoon outside with mah boo.

Hmm… I bet Honeysuckle would look terrific with a bronze or gold smokey eye, I thought to myself as I hopped down the stairs. maybe I’ll try that later, when I hopefully have a little much more time to get ready.

welcome to the weekend!

In the dream, I was back in my 20s and still single and dating. I was dating an up-and-coming chef, and a big group of us were out and about on a Friday night going to different restaurants and bars.

Sometime in the evening, a beautiful young woman joined us, and my spider senses started going off when I saw how she and the chef interacted with each other. I just knew there was something flirty happening between them but couldn’t put my finger on it.

My sixth sense confirmed something shady was happening when we were all at a restaurant where the chef was talking to his friends working in the back of the house, and he began introducing the young woman to everyone without bothering to introduce me.

My first thought was, “OH, hell NO,” so I interjected loudly to the group, “Hi, I’m Karen, and I’m his girlfriend.” then the chef said, “Um, this is Karen, and she’s, uh… Um, my, um.” So yeah, apparently at that point in the dream I’d had enough of his crap, so I started laughing, walked out of the restaurant, grabbed the first taxi I could find and went home.

Sonra uyandım.

Now, usually I’d be able to fall back to sleep pretty easily after such a silly dream, but I started thinking about how someday Connor will be dating, and I couldn’t doze off.

Biliyorum biliyorum. It’s so far away, but I just kept thinking about how someday she could end up seeing someone like the chef in my dream — someone who leaves her feeling “less than.” It’s hard for me to accept that someday I will have no control over the people who come into her life. I just hope I can show her enough so that she knows how strong she is and understands her worth.

Anywho, that’s what’s on my mind this morning… Well, along with these appeal products. because it always somehow goes back to beauty, right?

I’ve been kinda “meh” about my current hair routine and have been feeling like I need something new, so I’m giving a couple things from dpHUE a try. They’re a line you can find at Ulta and Sephora, and they’re known for their ACV Apple Cider Vinegar Hair rise and ACV Hair Masque. I’ve heard from friends who’ve grown out their grays that it’s great for the dryness that so often comes with graying hair. I’m hoping it’ll do good things because my mane has been feeling extra crunchy lately!

It’s also that time of year when I feel like I can step up the exfoliating in some way, so I’ve got some glycolic items from REN (a toner and night cream) and a Vitamin C serum from Paula’s choice on deck! I’m also trying a cleansing milk (also by REN), which I hope will offset any moisture loss from the exfoliators.

By the way, have you shopped the Sephora sale yet? If you have, you gotta let me know what you got, or what you plan on getting.

My, I’m feeling chatty this morning! I guess the coffee has kicked in.

I’ve always took pleasure in reading your answers in the comments, and I hope you take pleasure in reading mine.

Do you have very lots of baby pictures of yourself?
Not many, because it was the ’70s, before digital cameras made it so easy to accumulate 847 pictures on your iPhone.

Just one slim album of faded snapshots at my parents’ house.

I guess I must be thankful that there aren’t a lot more of them, considering that I’m either half dressed, crying or both in every single pic, haha!

One piece of makeup you wore last weekend?
Maybelline’s full ‘N Soft waterproof Mascara, and thank goodness for it, too!

I had the worst allergies last Saturday. Something my body doesn’t like need to be blooming ideal now because I could barely see out of my watery, itchy eyes. We went out to a great lunch up in Yountville, which is up near Napa, so I really wanted to wear something, but I kept my eye makeup to a minimum with just a cream shadow on my lids and a couple layers of full ‘N Soft Waterproof.

Have you ever been on a road trip in an RV?
Oh evet. have I ever. My parents got a motorhome back in the late ’80s, thinking it would be the greatest thing for the whole family to hit the open road and see the countryside.

We drove all up and down California and the Northwest states in that thing. I was a tween at the time, and the last thing I wanted was to spend my every waking minute, for days on end, trapped in a cramped space with my parents (the whole teenage rebellion thing, ya know?).

I remember spending a lot of time sulking in the corner, looking out the windows and listening to tapes on my Walkman.

Yes, Walkman. Debbie Gibson was a fave.

Is there a color of clothing you wear a lot more than others?
Siyah! I wear it so typically that I could probably pass for a new Yorker.

It’s easy, slimming, conceals tabby fur pretty well, and I can toughen it up or go incredibly girly, depending on my shoes and accessories.

Do you believe you have a sixth sense about anything?
Bilmiyorum. Belki? There have been a few times when I’ve have a very distinct image or clear understanding of something pop into my head, seemingly out of nowhere, and then days later, I’ll see what I saw play out in real life.

I tend to opt for my gut a lot when it pertains to big decisions, and it’s normally ideal (thankfully), so maybe that’s also something like a sixth sense…or just good guessing.

Finish my work by 5, and try to take pleasure in each and every moment along the way (or as lots of of them as possible).

If you could snap your fingers and improve any one aspect of your daily work life, what would you change and why?
I’d do something about my time management. I have a really, really hard time estimating how long tasks will take, and if I’m not given a strict deadline, I can nearly guarantee I’ll lose track of time.

Or, I’d try to not be so hard on myself (she says after talking about how bad she is as time management, haha). I push myself pretty hard. probably too hard, and I don’t think its healthy.

What’s one piece of makeup you’ve probably worn a thousand times before?
MAC Nymphette Lipglass… It was one of my MAC gateway products.

Who are some people (and pets!) in your support system?
El Hub, Tabs (in his own odd way), my parents and brother, my pals Jen and Cindy, and you, of course.

My wedding ring, a silver Tiffany bangle and a pair of long chain earrings.
